Shanawdithit was the last known living member of the Beothuk people of Newfoundland, Canada.
Also remembered for drawings she made towards the end of her life, Shawnawdithit was in her late twenties when she died of tuberculosis.
By 1829, with the death of Shanawdithit, the Beothuk people were officially declared extinct.
The land remained empty as a haunting reminder of the profound loss suffered by the Beothuk people and the enduring legacy of colonialism and cultural erasure.
